A Letter to Jesus
Dear Lord,
I love you! Yet, you say you first loved me. I read the evidence of your love and I am in awe and convinced you loved me first. Thank you, my Lord, for all the pain you endured before you headed to the cross and on the cross. Thirty-nine stripes you received for me. A pain I cannot imagine. This is a suffering I have yet to experience. This pain you endured driven by hate, yet you were guilty of nothing. Love led you to the cross as a sinless man to carry my sins for me. I can never repay you for saving me. What can I possibly offer you that wasn't first given to me by you? Forgive me, Jesus, for the times I have gone my own way and forgotten your suffering for me.
You kept silent, as an innocent man, as they stripped you naked to shame you and put on you an old, red cloak. Yet, you were royal. They placed a crown of thorns on your head, mocked you, spit on you, smote you on the head with a reed, and made you bear your cross. You thirst, but they gave you vinegar. Then they crucified you as you were nailed hands and feet to the cross. Yet, this was our Father's will to reconcile me through you back to Himself. Thank you Lord for taking what should have been my punishment. You paid a price no money in the world could buy. Sometimes I find myself wishing you’d please come now, to see you face to face. Until that great day, I write you this letter to say thank you and I love you. This is a "small" token, but I want you to have it before I come to you. Thank you for your invitation for me to come. Lord thank you for your letter written to me daily. I read it over and over again only to learn something else I didn't know, yet it's the same letter. I am amazed by you! I am forever grateful I get to know a portion of you on earth before I come to heaven. Thank you, Jesus, for dying for me to live forever. By this, we are together forever.
Love your friend,
